I've had a pain in my lower right jaw since last Tuesday. Every now and then it feels like a heated piece of metal is being driven into my gums. This lasts for a few minutes and the pain seems to invade the entire region of my jaw, neck and ear. I can almost picture my right rear teeth launching from the sockets as if trying to escape. This eventually goes away and is replaced by the same bearable yet irritating low throbbing pain... I visited a close friend on Friday and his fiance who has just discovered new age healing, reckons that I'm creatively stuck or that I may have issues with someone that needs to be resolved.
Might be the book I'm working on... or not hahahaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!
Too terrified to go to the dentist. The last thing I want to hear is that my wisdom teeth need to be removed. All I can think of is the mountain of work that needs to be done at the office.

You know... if you have an abscessed wisdom tooth, hoo boy. Go get that thing yanked out.
Chew any ice cubes lately?
One of my wisdom teeth (upper right) had a hole in it, got worn down somehow, probably from rubbing up against my gum (and chewing presumably). It was weird though, cause it wasn't rotten or anything, just a big hole.
Well... the nerve was exposed (I saw it when I got it yanked the hell out), and it was still 'alive'.
The pain you describe sounds similar to what I would feel on and off for about two years. Because like you, I didn't want to go to the dentist and I hated the idea of going to one - let alone one that would rip you off by not doing what you needed them to do, only to have you come back for repeat visits (I've had that one happen, ugh!)...
Anyways... the pain was the WORST pain I have EVER felt in my whole life. And mind you, I've been put through my paces in my day... It was so bad I honestly wanted to jam my head in a drawer and slam it in repeatedly.
My ear ached, my neck ached, my eyesockets ached, it literally felt like someone had
driven a couple of frozen rusty railroad spikes through my head at the temple (and through behind my eye sockets), and up through my jaw and past my ear.
Just goes to show how much excrutiating torture one exposed nerve could do.
At one point it got so bad, I could not sleep for 3 days, and all I could do was sit there trying to distract myself, bouncing my leg because of the pain. Painkillers were not working, ambesol wasn't working, nothing would phase this thing... I finally managed to knock myself out by
Well, all in all though, I did write a song about it. I called it 'the Focking Pain'!
So... good on you if you're going to go see a dentist!!!

Get this. I go see the dentist and he tells me my right wisdom tooth is pushing against the tooth in front of it causing an impaction in that particular tooth. On top of that there is an abscess below the same tooth. He wants to remove this tooth and not the wisdom tooth pushing against it?!?!?!?! Like wtf! Something doesn't seem very right here. My left wisdom isn't giving problems yet but he says that it will in time to come >.< I want both wisdoms removed and not the teeth that are getting harmed by them!!!
Could be that he wants repeat business by taking the long way around to eliminating the problem.
I'll see what happens next week when I go for the extraction (may need a drink before I go). Till then I'm eating baby food.
